Bass DSP

Most plugins are designed with a guitar or a synth in mind. Detection thresholds, filter ranges, oversampling budgets, release curves: all of it gets tuned against a source whose fundamental sits an octave above mine.

So I start over. Every algorithm is written from scratch, calibrated on real bass recordings and classic bass pedals. I try to borrow the feel and leave the circuitry behind.

And I show how I design them.

How Do We Hear Low?
We hear pitch from the spacing between harmonics, so an octave down means adding a layer underneath. From pitch perception and tuning standards to how octavers, pitch shifters and harmonizers track and shift pitch.
